We invite all owners, renters and members of stratas, not for profits and co-ops in False Creek South to join us for a presentation by Thom Armstrong from the Co-op Housing Federation of BC.

The Vancouver Community Land Trust Foundation, part of CHF BC, has started construction on what will become a total of 358 rental units across several sites in the city of Vancouver last fall. The rent in these units is expected to average 25% below market value.

With this initiative, CHF BC has started to deploy a model that is being used in other North American and international housing markets and is known as Community Land Trusts. In this instance, the approach used gives housing co-ops and other stakeholders the sc
ale and leverage they need to provide for their long-term security, and to optimize their potential for renewal.

This presentation is part of RePlan’s efforts to explore the potential of Community Land Trusts in False Creek South and other public land in the Lower Mainland.  The goal is to determine whether  Community Land Trust could be a viable option to renew leases in False Creek South while providing added value to current and future residents and the city as a whole.
