RePlan – in collaboration with Ignatius But, a planning student from UBC – has produced a short video to highlight what lease renewal for housing co-ops will mean for families and local businesses.

When the land leases for co-ops on City-owned property are renewed, a new generation of young people will be able to start families, as secure home owners. Not-for-profit housing co-operatives are independent, democratically-controlled social enterprises that provide modest homes for its members, who also are the shareholders. Affordability comes from co-ops’ cost-recovery operational model; no one makes a profit from co-op housing, neither through rent nor property sales.

Please share this video if you agree that land leases for co-ops should be renewed to matinain the benefits that housing co-ops bring to sustaining healthy, mixed income, multi-age communities in the heart of the city of Vancouver.
