A new student-led Climate Club is underway at the school for kids wanting to work on initiatives toward climate action. Meeting weekly at lunchtime, the Club’s current focus is on a grant application for their first project.
Not surprisingly, many False Creek students joined the huge Climate Strike on September 27. Grade 6 and 7 students walked with their teachers, joining the event though a field trip while younger students joined in when their parents picked them up after lunch. The Climate Strike, numbering about 100,000 participants, was among the largest demonstrations ever held in Vancouver.
Back at the school and on the same climate-conscious theme, the PAC has started a Zero Waste Lunch Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teaming up with the Vancouver-based C’est Mon Café, the program features new and more varied menu items and a reduction in waste and recycling through reusable dishes and cutlery. A benefit to PAC itself is that fewer parent volunteers are required.
