FCS 101: The success of grassroots activism in False Creek South
September 25, 2024 | 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Want to learn more about connections between place-based activism and resistance to “the real estate state”? And how it all applies to False Creek South?
Please join us to learn more about Robyn Chan’s graduate school research on the work of the FCSNA, RePlan, and the wider False Creek South Community in resisting the CIty of Vancouver’s 2021 real estate plan. RePlan Project Manager Robyn Chan graduated in 2023 with a Master’s in Urban Studies from SFU. Her thesis project (link here) built upon her years of work with the False Creek South community to protect this model community, and to challenge the rise of neoliberal approaches to planning and real estate. Robyn will be discussing her thesis, which is titled “The impact of place-based grassroots activism when challenging the real estate state: Strategies and successes of the False Creek South Neighbourhood Association”. Her work traces the activism, strategies, and successes of False Creek South residents in the face of City of Vancouver plans to dramatically redevelop the community. Please RSVP at your earliest convenience.
