The City of Vancouver’s Real Estate Department is restarting the Comprehensive Landowner’s Development Plan for False Creek South, with the project aiming to begin in December 2024. According to City documentation, the project will focus first on technical requirements, including infrastructure, soil remediation, and sea level rise mitigations.
At this point, the City has issued a Request for Expression of Interest and it anticipates hiring a contractor in the third quarter of this year. This new real estate development process – the one in 2021 was accepted as “information only” by Council – was spurred by Councillor Kirby-Yung’s March 2024 Motion to deliver more co-ops homes on vacant City-owned land.
Based on RePlan’s understanding, there is a misalignment between the more pressing timeline in the Motion to deliver more co-ops homes on vacant City-owned land in False Creek South and the multi-year timing, including remedial work, mandated in the Comprehensive Landowner’s Development Plan for the neighbourhood – and we are in touch with Councillors on this issue.
At this time, RePlan’s priorities continue to be the pathway to lease extensions for co-ops and non-profits; advancing the development of new co-ops on vacant land; and advancing the Campus of Care.
