Social activist, False Creek South community leader and former MP, Margaret Mitchell, dies at 92
Her many friends and neighbours mourn the passing on March 8, 2017, of longtime False Creek South resident and former Member of Parliament Margaret Mitchell.
A delegate for many years to the False Creek South Neighbourhood Association, Margaret represented the Henley Court strata.
Much of Margaret’s working life was devoted to community development in Vancouver neighbourhoods.
After retiring as an MP in 1993, she brought the same enthusiasm that had guided her work to her False Creek South neighbourhood where she remained active and engaged.
In 2016 she was very supportive, both financially and morally, of the Neighbourhood Association’s Refugee Sponsorship Committee that is sponsoring a Syrian family currently living in a refugee camp in Northern Iraq.
Margaret continued a life well lived to the age of 92.
