The piñata was hung, the 40th anniversary cake placed in the middle of the table, tables set, the volunteers galore wondering what they could do next, and the portapotty guarding the area for all of us!

BBQs were on at noon sharp, French fries jumping in the oil. The aroma attracted the guests who started lining up with their empty plates hoping for a nice and juicy meat or veggie burger with all the toppings, condiments and of course crunchy fries.
Plenty of  delicious food was shared to complement the BBQ and the big jars of lemonade kept being filled up by our community garden representative.

Kids broke the piñata among shouts and punches and as the music started, our feet started dancing and our bodies swayed to the rhythms of a Brazilian samba.

This was the celebration of False Creek South Neighbourhood Association’s 40th year of existence.

… a BIG thank you to all those volunteers and participants (registered and non) that made this great afternoon possible, where we Chilled out, Grilled delicious burgers and felt like part of the large community.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY False Creek South Neighbourhood Association!

Rosemary Sutter offers this poem on our neighbourhood party:

It was a dreamy, sunny autumn day

Though one could feel a nip was in the air
The neighbours came to chat and eat and play
Ran out of name tags – were so many there.
A sense we had of kindly gentleness
Like an oasis, far from any harm
And though subdued, a vibrant joyfulness
The children shrieking, though not from alarm
It was the bright piñata they struck at
With shrieks of laughter as the pony burst
Balloons, and whistles, goodies, all went splat!
A time when simply being here came first.
To those who made it happen – gratitude,
As well, to those who came and made the mood.
