We now have a family to live in the apartment we have rented in False Creek South. As it turns out this is a government-sponsored family. They have very little English. Our community and volunteers will certainly be able to provide them with much more support than would be usual for government-sponsored refugees.
They are a young Kurdish Syrian family of three – mom (Salem), dad (Rami) and their 2 1/2 year old daughter, Lillian, an adorable active child. They have been here for only 2 weeks and were staying in a Vancouver motel prior to moving into False Creek South. They spent the last 3 years in Lebanon. Rami is a plumber, Salem a music teacher.
CBC Television covered their move to False Creek South on Tuesday April 26, 2016. You can watch the CBC news story– here is the link. It is about 21 minutes into the 6 o’clock news: http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2687559461
Here is a photo of Lillian, aged 2 1/2, ironically the same age as Aya the little girl in our original family.
